GCC hosted Latvia as part of the “Country Days” events

As part of its vision to strengthen global partnerships, Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce hosted Latvia supported by the Enterprise Europe Network project. The event was held at the GCC headquarters with the participation of H.E. Bahtijors Hasans, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Ankara; Mr. İlker Eker, Deputy Governor of Gaziantep; and Mr. Soner Bacaksız, Honorary Consul of Latvia in Gaziantep.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Tuncay Yıldırım, Chairman of the Board of Directors Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the city’s strong potential in industry, exports, and tourism, stating: “Today we are not only here to learn about a country, but also to strengthen our collaborations and open new doors for trade. With its strategic position within the European Union, Latvia can serve as a key partner in facilitating Turkish products’ access to European markets. However, the current trade volume remains far below our true potential. As GCC, we are ready to connect our companies with the Latvian market through mutual business delegations and sectoral matchmaking.”
Ambassador Hasans delivered a presentation providing an overview of Latvia’s economy, priority sectors, and opportunities for Turkish investors. He drew attention to potential areas of cooperation ranging from logistics to digitalization, healthcare, and green technologies.
‘Secrets of Amber’ Exhibition:
As part of the event, openning the exibition by Latvian photographer Andris Zēgners titled “Secrets of Amber” connected art and diplomacy . The exhibition, which can be visited at GCC's hall until May 9, 2025, not only showcases Latvia's cultural richness through art but also adds cultural depth to the bond between the two countries.
Mr. Yıldırım emphasized the role of cultural diplomacy by stating:
“Bonds built through culture make trade more sustainable and meaningful. Amber today is not only a stone, but also a symbol of shared memory between our two nations.”
Thanks to the contributions of Mr. Soner Bacaksız, Honorary Consul of Latvia in Gaziantep and Member of the GCC Assembly, participants had the opportunity to directly address their questions to the Ambassador and explore potential business opportunities in the Latvian market.
